Both of Scott's terms as the Commissioner from District #7 have been filled with rewarding projects and challenges. Scott has served as Chairman of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority and Vice-Chairman of the Regional Rail Authority. Prior to his service at Anoka County Scott had served for 12 years on the Coon Rapids City Council as Mayor Pro Tem and Councilman at Large. He has tackled very tough economies and even tighter budgets and has made the tough choices it takes to move projects ahead in tough circumstances. Balancing budgets and directing policy are priorities in his governing style. "Keeping a lid on taxes is crucial to the success of Anoka County families and businesses." is one of Scott's mantras.
Committees, Commissions, Boards & Assignments
Scott desire to serve was learned over the course of 26 years working alongside his father, a Coon Rapids businessman who achieved success by always putting the needs of his customers first. Commissioner Schulte purchased the business in 1998 and to this day, continues the legacy of community service, commitment and leadership.
Scott joined the Anoka County Board of Commissioners in 2013. Prior to joining the board, he was a 13-year member of the Coon Rapids City Council. He is also a lifelong Rotarian.
His passion for public service pairs well with his affinity for effective transportation and technology integration. Scott is chair of the county’s Transportation Committee and vice chair of Information Technology, Public Safety and Parks and Community Services Committees. He also chairs the Anoka County Housing and Redevelopment Authority and is vice chair of the Anoka County Regional Railroad Authority. Schulte also serves on the county’s Intergovernmental and Community Relations; Finance and Capital Improvements; and Recycling and Resources Solutions Committees.
Scott is a member of the Solid Waste Management Coordinating Board; Community Corrections Advisory Board; Joint Law Enforcement Council; the Counties Transit Improvement Board, and the Anoka County Canvassing Board. He also serves on the Metropolitan Council Transportation Advisory Board, the Grant Evaluation and Ranking System (GEARS) Committee, the Northstar Corridor Development Authority, and the Law Library Board of Trustees and is a voting delegate for the District 10 Association of Minnesota Counties. Scott is the lead commissioner in matters relating to pipeline safety legislation.
